Many professionals have lamented that since a diagnosis of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is limited to a single event, a client who has been exposed to multiple traumatic, life threatening events cannot be accounted for with a simple PTSD diagnosis. Additionally, treating “complex PTSD” is different than with a “singular” event.
The World Health Organization is leading the way with publishing the new diagnosis in the ICD-11, their diagnostic classification of diseases, used by insurers to provide medical treatment of disorders and diseases.
