When we think about openly expressing our thoughts and feelings, we can have hesitation.

Some of those feelings may be warranted. “Wait! We thought open expression was our goal!” And, yes, it is.

Let’s consider what else might be important before sharing our thoughts. For example, what is our goal in sharing what’s on our mind? If it is to enhance our relationship with someone, understanding our goals and values can help guide our intention, our tone, our behavior and the content of our words. When we make choices that allow us to be effective with our desire to communicate, think of all the time and stress we can save to spend it on having fun.
