Sometimes, when not neurotypical, it may be a challenge to give clear and concise labels to your inner state. Confidently saying, “I feel hurt because…” or “I feel joyful” may be difficult. Or, if someone asks, “How do you feel about…?” you may find it nearly impossible to answer.
Have you heard of alexithymia? It’s a framework used to describe when folks have difficulty identifying their emotions. With awareness of this, neurodivergent folks can begin to find creative ways to tap into their internal states through art therapy activities or motion mapping activation in the body.
